* All coaches must obtain the appropriate coaching level (see chart above), as defined by the SHA Regulations, by February 1st of the current season. It is the Minor Hockey Associations responsibility to ensure all their coaches have the proper coaching certification. If a coach does not obtain the appropriate coaching level, the Minor Hockey Association they are registered with will be fined $50.00 and he/she will be suspended for the rest of the season and not be allowed to register as a coach the next season until he/she has completed the appropriate coaching level.*
* At least one team official listed as a coach on a minor hockey team must attend a Bodychecking and/or Safety clinic by February 1 of the current season. (Female team coaches, Initiation and 3-4 coaches are exempt as no bodychecking allowed in these divisions) Failure to complete will result in the team being fined by the SHA and 1 coach will be suspended for the balance of the season by PSMHA.
Coaches Respect in Sport/Speak Out
All SHA Rostered Team Officials registered (with the exception of stick boys/girls under the age of 16) must complete a Respect in Sport/Speak Out! course for coaches by February 1 of the current season. This course can be completed as an in class course (2012-2013 SHA Clinic Dates) OR it can be completed online at the SHA website
*Please Note: If you are new to the association or have just moved to Saskatchewan and have taken a Coaching clinic, Speak Out clinic or any clinic from a different province, your certification will qualify here. Please contact the Administrative Assistant.
*PSMHA will reimburse coaches for any required coaching clinic. Please submit paid receipts to the Administrative Assistant.
Coaching Development Tools
Please take advantage of this valuable resource of hockey development tools provided by Kelly Toporowski, the SHA Skills Development Leader.
You can find a great deal of planning ideas and files at: http://www.box.net/hockeyresources
Whenever possible, we will dig deep into this treasure chest of Coaching Goodies, and send it out where applicable.
To start with, new Coaches who are looking for the Hockey Canada Skills Manuals (formerly called Nike Skills Manuals) can find many of these booklets under the folder called Skills & Drills Documentation. When you attend a SHA clinic for the appropriate Coaching Level, you will receive a new Manual, but it sure helps to have this information BEFORE the season starts.
